Without competition in the HD DVD format, Sony demand what they want, for the Blu-ray. After years of consumer complaints of price fixing of CDs and DVDs, and when they finally started to get more realistic, it is a new format from Sony, with prices fixed for a further 10 years.
The Blu-ray does not cost much more than produce, even here in the UK are selling less than the equivalent of $ 30 +.
Sony Mega-Company now owns the media, from production to distribution, and the format control means, absolutely no competition what so ever.
